Amy Wickman, MD

Amy Wickman, MD, is an experienced spine specialist. She approaches spine surgery by keeping patients and their families in the foreground, and draws on her own experience with orthopaedic issues and with caring for sick family members.
Dr. Wickman completed her undergraduate degree in urban planning at Brown University and earned her medical degree at the Stritch School of Medicine at Loyola University Chicago. During her five-year residency she trained at a Level 1 trauma center, the Hines VA, and Shriners Hospital for Children, treating everything from traumatic spine and spinal cord injuries to scoliosis in children and degenerative conditions such as herniated discs in adults.
Her orthopaedic training lets her look at the whole patient rather than only what appears on an MRI, and she avoids surgery where other approaches are equally effective. When more than one option exists, she takes time to make sure patients understand each one, and includes family members in decisions where possible.
